Investment Criteria
Direct Investments
We have a bottom-up long-term philosophy to investing and tend to be opportunistic in our approach to implementing our investment strategy. Our focus is on direct investments in companies that occupy market niches and groups that might have unsolved succession issues, financing or earnings problems and partial sale intentions. We are generally sector agnostic (with some notable exceptions - see below):
Investment Criteria
We primarily seek to partner with management teams and make investments in growth-focused businesses with an established track record of success. Utilizing a generalist investment strategy, we have a particular interest in situations with the following characteristics:
Proven business model
Sustainable and defendable competitive advantage
Strong returns on invested capital
Solid cash flow generation with high return opportunities for reinvestment
Alignment of incentives with the management team
Our sweet spot
We are a investment holding company focused on acquiring great companies to hold for the long term. We focus on retaining all employees, where possible, and protecting customer, supplier and community relationships.:
Prefer sellers who want to retire or transition.
Focus on finding great businesses, less on specific industries
EBIT or pre-tax profit above $1,000,000
History of sustained profitability
We avoid early-stage, exploration, rapid growth, turnaround, technology, life sciences, and real estate development-related opportunities.
Public Markets
Our team employs a bottom-up, value-oriented approach to identify qualifying opportunities and steer our assets through rising and falling markets and shifting economic conditions over the long-term.
